2012 Presidential Candidates Ranking
In an effort to keep you updated on how we see the candidates, we have given them a rating. These ratings are not final, and they are subject to change when there are debates, and big electoral events.
Michelle Bachman |
A Tea party favorite, Bachman exibits great Conservative credentials and principles. She's a fighter and a charismatic candidate. But the liberal media has defaced her so badly, it is hard to imagine her beating Obama. Not to mention no one has been elected straight from the House to the Presidency since President Garfield in 1880. No change to ranking. Last night she proved that she can go after anyone any time. She attacked Gingrich and Paul, quite effectively. However, these attacks may play extremely well to her current supporters, but we doubt it will gain her any new support.

Mitt Romney |
The man who never stopped running after 2008 is the clear favorite to win the nomination according to many talking heads. However he will not win anything with anyone until he defines who he is. Will we see the economic juggernaught he can be, or will we see the Mitt Romney who is going to again play defense about his religion, abortion and now Romneycare (Which he will have to explain in detail to outraged conservatives). One thing is clear, Mitt Romney would have the best chance at beating Obama, if he defines who he is, because there is nothing that Obama can bring to a debate about economics against a man like Mitt Romney. Barely won Iowa and seems to be gaining points in the polls, however, he is still way too timid to take on someone like Obama. TNG does not believe he is as electable as pepople think he is. Gains half a Gadsen for winning Iowa.

Rick Perry |
A Solid Conservative with experience and a presidential voice. Rick Perry may prove to be the saving grace of a weak field, according to the talking heads. Solid economic stats in TX, along with the guts to call out the President on his lack of leadership. Having said that it remains to be seen if he is "too establishment". He endorsed "no child left behind" and has not really gotten serious about entitlements at the state level. Gains a full Gadsen. Bad showing in Iowa, won't place in NH. He must make a stand in SC, that did not work well for Fred Thompson though. He gains a Gadsen based on his latest rhetoric. He seems to be the only one left talking about small government, states rights, and is still the ONLY outsider left of the viable candidates.

Rick Santorum |
A true champion of social Conservatism, Rick Santorum looks like a real wild card. A solid Conservative pedigree coupled with a fighting spirit will make him a tough candidate to beat in a primary fight. However his voting record in the Senate remains suspect. Voting for increases to forieng aid, Increase AMTRAK funding, and the MediCare drug benefit, he's going to have to answer for his 98% of votes that went Bush's way. Loosing one Gadsen. As we hear more and more, we get glimpses of a big government Republican who won't srhink the size of government, he'll just attempt to manage it better. Plus he has already pledged to increase federal education funding.

Ron Paul |
The staunchest constitutionalist in the public eye, Ron Paul support has been growing since the constitutionally consious Tea Party came into it's own. However, with major electablity issues, and some foreign policy ideas that are in direct conflict with the maintream conservative movement, it remains to be seen if Ron Paul can apeal to jersey wearing republicans in a presidential primary. Loosing one Gadsen. We know where he stands. We know his supporters will be there, and we know his domestic and foreign policy merits anf flaws. He's loosing the Gadsen because he said he knows he wont win. Why run if you don't think you can win? stop wasting our time then.

John Huntsman |
The harley riding former governor of Utah is likely to jump in the race as one of the biggest unkowns. He's made many moves on staff, and is set to leave his post as U.S. ambasator to China in May. One of his biggest problems will be explaining his opposition to nuclear energy and domestic drilling, Specially given that Energy is shaping up to be one of the biggest campaign issues. We're done.....

Newt Gingrich |
On the Surface a great candidate. Responsible for the 94 revolution, solid conservative credentials, and one of the brightest political minds in the country. But Newt Gingrich has much to overcome besides the obvious pesonal issues. He has proven to be a party over principles politician with his endorsement of Scozzafava in the recent NY-23 race. He also has electability issues and problems in the hispanic community that go back to his "spanish is the language of the ghetto" comments. Loosing two Gadsens. Forget all the Bachman attacks, forget the globalist views, or the progressive label that Glen Beck put on his back. Forget the amnesty, forget everything about the last Iowa debate. The only thing one should remember is that against the grain of Conservative views on PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTION, the speaker said that he would not purge the GOP of these folks. Bottom line is that TNG's initial assesment has been confirmed. Newt gingrich is a PARTY OVER PRINCIPLES political insider.

Gary Johnson |
A long shot at best to win the GOP nommination fight, Gary Johnson is one of few Republicans to oppose the Iraq war from the onset. He also opposes the war on drugs, and is a big proponent of pot legalization. His favorable views of same sex marriage and his pro-choice stance are not likely to play well with the social conservatives or jersey wearing republicans for that matter. No change in ranking.
Latest scoop: TNG is very Glad that he was invited to participate in the debate. He had a forgetable performance and a very weak precence at CPAC. No ranking change.

Fred Karger |
A staunch pro choice candidate with a record of gay right activism, who does not seems to want to go far in a republican primary. He is a Liberal republican who's experience included running several political campaigns. He gets one Gadsen for having the balls to file. No change. To his credit, this is as low as TNG rankings can go. He did make some noise by boycotting Florida O.J.......yes..... Unless Florida Moves back it's primary. We're serious.

Buddy Roemer |
The former moderate democrat was a congressman fom 1981 to 1988. He often broke the party line to vote with president Reagan. The former Louisiana Governor is shaky on abortion, and most of the social issues. Claims to be a fiscal conservative, and seems strong on immigration. He is not well known, and will have trouble getting the establishment and the T.E.A. party on his side. Gains one Gadsen. He has a self imposed limit of $100 per donation, Which says a whole lot for not beign beholden to special interests.
